Harihareshwar is also called Devghar, God’s chosen place. One will feel the softness of clean sands as he strolls barefoot on beach.

Legend has it that during the confrontation with Bali, Vishnu took three steps, one of which landed in Harihareshwar.

Another legend is of Saint Agasti, who discovered four swayambhu (self formed) lingas in Harihareshwar and found the peace he had long sought.

Temples apart, the sheer beauty of the place itself is like a soothing balm.

Close to Harihareshwar is Shriwardhan where the Peshwas or prime ministers of the Maratha Kingdom originally resided. There is the Peshwa Memorial.
