Jyotirlinga of Bhimashankar, a main pilgrim center, 100 kilometers from Pune is situated at the height of 1035 meters in the Sahyadri ranges. This is the place of the source of Bhima River. The temple has gorgeous carvings. It was reconstructed by eminent intellectual people in the history Nana Phadanvis. The biggest bell in the temple is of Portuguese make and said to be brought by Chimaji Appa in his Vasai conquest.

On Mahashivratri and Tripuri Poornima, annual fairs are held here which attract thousands of devotees. There are Dharamshalas (hospice) in the complex of the temple.

Bhimashankar, being hill station, has a pleasant climate and natural scenery.
